“The Solace” Polish Hill River Riesling 2023
Very pale green colour.
Subtle aromas of pink grapefruit, lime/lemon and some of the mineral/slate-like aromas we typically expect to see from this vineyard.
The palate is crisp and bright with layers of citrus fruit, talc and has perhaps a slightly saline aspect to it – derived from the slate based soils I suspect. The wine is quite tightly wound, but is tempered nicely by the concentrated fruit and the small amount of residual sweetness we have retained in this wine.
A little shy at first, as is normal with this wine, but given a little time in the glass it begins to reveal its obvious potential. A worthy follow up to the terrific 2022 wine from this vineyard that impressed so many. While undoubtedly a good drink now, it will repay those who can cellar for 7-10 years plus.
