Well, I guess it had to happen given the dry season we are having here in the Mid North of SA. The block of Riesling around our house was smashed by a really nasty frost on the morning of 17th September. The temperature went as low as -2 C which spells disaster for the soft green shoots and buds emerging from the vines. See pic below. This is the block that provides the fruit for our popular “Solace” Polish Hill River Riesling. While it is still early to properly assess the overall damage, it would be very unlikely that we will be harvesting any fruit for the ’25 vintage from this block.

The only good news is that the block we source fruit from for the “Learnings” Watervale Riesling was spared any damage – for the time being anyway! It won’t be until mid November when we will start to feel safe from potential frost damage. While the frost event was particularly unfortunate, we are still really grateful for the run of 4 terrific vintages of the “Solace” Riesling we have had in a row since we started Limefinger. We will keep you up to date with any further news – hopefully not of the “bad news” variety. Thanks again for your support.
